There has not been much Oliver Chin has not accomplished since he was the newspaper cartoonist at Harvard, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1991. Chin, who has been called a “comics expert” by the San Jose Mercury News founded the publishing company Immedium in 2004 to collaborate with professional artists to create children’s books.

Chin, who has been called a “comics expect” by the San Jose Mercury News founded the publishing company Immedium in 2004 to collaborate with professional artists to create children’s books.

As the Director of Sales and Marketing at Viz (1997-2000), he helped popularize Japanese anime and manga in America, helping sell 1 million copies of Pokemon #1 across 16 printings (a US comic book record).

Since then he has written eight books, including the sports commentary The Tao of Yao: Insights from Basketball's Brightest Big Man.

Chin’s work of 9 of 1: A Window to the World (set in a high school in Union City) received Honorable Mention for the Gustavus Myers Award in 2003. The award that “commends works that extend our understanding of the root causes of bigotry and the range of options we as humans have in constructing alternative ways to share power."

He is the creator of the Tales of the Chinese Zodiac Series: The Year of the Dog, The Year of the Pig and The Year of the Rat.

Along with his work at Immedium, Chin is an entertainment columnist for Comics and Games Retailer magazine and a reviewer for Comics Buyer’s Guide.

He currently resides in San Francisco, CA with his wife and two sons.
